Resurfacing of Old Clip Shows Wike Criticizing APC’s Plans to Continue Buhari’s Legacy

Amidst the current nationwide protests against hardship, Nigerians are revisiting an old video featuring the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, where he lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for their comments on carrying forward the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that back in 2022, some presidential aspirants from the APC, including President Bola Tinubu, pledged to uphold the “good work” of Buhari’s administration if elected.

At that time, Wike, who was the Governor of Rivers State and a presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had questioned the notion of continuing what was touted as Buhari’s accomplishments.

A video clip from that period surfaced online recently and is being widely circulated. In the clip, Wike can be heard criticizing the previous government’s record of “people dying every day” and the naira devaluing regularly.

Wike expressed, “It is truly disheartening to hear individuals under the APC government stating they want to continue the good job of President Buhari—what good job? People dying daily, the naira plummeting daily.”

He continued, “I am appalled by the level of sycophancy where people claim they want to continue Buhari’s good work. What is this so-called good work—hunger, poverty, insecurity, and a failing economy?”

Nigerians believe that the economic downturn worsened after President Tinubu assumed office in 2023 following Buhari.

Wike, now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under the APC administration, has been urging Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu’s government, stressing that the president requires more time to revive the nation’s fortunes.

The FCT Minister has been critical of the ongoing nationwide protests against hardship, asserting that Tinubu has the best interests of Nigerians at heart.

Internet users who are recirculating the old video are mocking the Minister, accusing him of displaying double standards.
