Restriction Imposed by Zamfara Government on Interviews for Political Officers and Civil Servants

In an effort to maintain control over the dissemination of information, the Zamfara State Government has announced a ban on political office holders, heads of agencies, and civil servants granting interviews, issuing statements, or participating in programs on radio, television, and social media without obtaining prior authorization.

The Commissioner of Information, Mannir Haidara, emphasized the importance of adhering to this directive and confirmed that all radio stations would be closely monitored to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

Expressing concerns over the unauthorized release of information by various individuals and organizations, Haidara highlighted the need for proper approval before engaging with the media on government policies and programs.

The Ministry of Information and Culture has taken steps to address this issue by mandating that all such interactions must receive approval from the relevant authorities before proceeding.

Haidara delivered the following message in his statement: “The Zamfara state government is disappointed by the behavior of certain individuals, political groups, and agency heads who conduct interviews or programs on government policies without following the appropriate protocols.”

“To curb this behavior, the Ministry of Information and Culture in Zamfara state hereby declares that no political office holder, group, or agency head is allowed to engage in any interview, issue statements, or broadcast programs on media platforms without prior authorization.”

“Furthermore, media organizations operating in the state are urged to refrain from airing programs related to government policies for any individual or group without the requisite approval from the supervising Ministry or the Ministry of Information.”

“The Ministry of Information and Culture is dedicated to monitoring radio stations for compliance to ensure that all information conveyed to the public regarding government policies is accurate and properly disseminated.”
