‘Respect for 2Face, Timaya, and D’banj’ – Burna Boy

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning artist, has expressed admiration for the likes of 2Baba, Timaya, D’banj, Larry Gaaga, and Wande Coal, who are the only veterans he holds in high regard in the Nigerian music scene.

According to the ‘African Giant’ himself, these individuals are the esteemed figures who have made a significant impact on his life and music career.

While responding to a recent call by veteran producer ID Cabasa for Nigerian artists to honor legends in the industry, Burna Boy highlighted the influence of these seasoned artists.

During an Instagram live interaction with his fans, he shared: “I hold Timaya in high esteem because he was the one who demonstrated that attaining stardom was achievable. He will always have my respect throughout my life.

“D’banj also showed me support in the past. He funded the ‘Wan Da Mo’ music video. These two individuals are sacred to me. It’s not a lack of respect from others, we have simply gone through numerous experiences, and we tend to remember those who were there for us during darker times. Personalities like Larry Gaaga, who stood by me during those times. These are individuals I will forever cherish.

“In my book, when we talk about OGs, these names hold significance alongside 2Face, owing to their musical talent and the fact that 2Face collaborated with me when he didn’t have to, years ago. These are the OGs for me. Others do not fit that category. As for ID Cabasa, perhaps you could meet Olamide and be his OG [laughs]. Each of us has faced unique challenges and perceives life differently.

“Additionally, I have a special place in my heart for Wande Coal. We shared a close bond at one point.”
