Resolution of Conflict Between Nigeria Police and PSC Regarding Successful Applicants Post 2024 Recruitment

Following the release of the list of successful applicants for the constable recruitment exercise of 2024 by the Police Service Commission, the Nigeria Police Force has now agreed with the list.

A disagreement had arisen earlier when the PSC released the list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre positions on June 4, leading to tensions between the organizations within the Nigeria Police Force.

The police authorities initially contested the list, citing alleged corruption and irregularities in the recruitment process.

Despite the objections, the Commission stood firm on not annulling the list, which prompted the Ministry of Police Affairs, led by Ibrahim Gaidam, along with other stakeholders to intervene in the situation.

Announced on Tuesday, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that both organizations had come to an agreement on the list after extensive discussions with the PSC.

It was mentioned by the Police spokesperson, “The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed optimism that the newly recruited constables would play their part in ensuring the security of the country.”

Adejobi further revealed that the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission had finally reached an accord concerning the ultimate merit list for the Police Constable recruitment within the Nigeria Police Force.

He noted that through thorough discussions and collaboration, both the NPF and PSC had diligently worked to maintain transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in the recruitment process.

As per the statement, the Inspector General of Police expressed contentment with the outcome, affirming that the consensus on the final merit list showcased the dedication of both the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission to work together for the country’s benefit.

He also expressed trust that the recruits would significantly support the Federal Government of Nigeria’s endeavors to generate employment opportunities for Nigerian youth, enhance internal security operations, and uphold law and order.

It was explained that following the IGP’s directive, the newly recruited constables would undergo training on contemporary policing ethics and principles, with the training set to commence on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

The statement highlighted that the training regimen would be comprehensive, focusing on equipping the recruits with the requisite skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their duties and uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

In line with the IGP’s instructions, the statement detailed that the trainees would be educated on contemporary policing ethics and principles, strategies of community policing, ICT, artificial intelligence, human relations, attitudinal and behavioral changes, among others.

The Inspector General of Police extended appreciation to all stakeholders and the public for their continued patience and support during this process.
