Request for Bill Cosby’s Release from Jail due to Coronavirus Concerns

Amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis, Bill Cosby’s legal team is urging for his release from prison citing health concerns.

Holding a three to ten-year sentence at the SCI Phoenix in Montgomery County prison facility for sexual assault, the 82-year-old disgraced comedian’s legal representatives are preparing to file a petition at Pennsylvania Exceptional Court docket seeking his transfer to household arrest due to his age and underlying medical conditions.

Expressing the urgency, Cosby’s spokesman Andrew Wyatt informed website Six: “We believe that it is only a matter of time before Mr. Cosby’s prison potentially falls victim to the virus; such a confined space is the ideal environment for the rapid spread of the virus, posing a risk to prison staff and vulnerable inmates.

“Bill Cosby is no detriment or risk to the community. He is unable to move freely, being elderly and visually impaired. He can effectively serve his sentence under house arrest with an ankle bracelet, as he did before, with his spouse providing care. Let him serve his time at home.”

Expressing concern for Cosby’s well-being, Wyatt stated, “We fear for Cosby as the prison staff, who assist him with medical appointments, meals, and cell cleaning, are in close contact with him, and if they get infected, they could pass it on to him.”

The request follows the administration’s plans to release some non-violent criminals, including Donald Trump’s initiative to lower the risk of a prison outbreak during the pandemic.
