Reps spokesman: N6.2tn supplementary budget to undergo thorough review

The National Assembly is set to scrutinize the N6.2tn 2024 supplementary budget presented by President Bola Tinubu, as stated by House of Representatives Deputy Spokesman, Philip Agbese, during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday.

Agbese affirmed the parliament’s commitment to conducting a detailed and exhaustive examination of the supplementary budget, which is directed towards critical infrastructure, education, healthcare, and the welfare of Nigerians, among other areas.

Detailing the components of the budget, Agbese said, “The 2024 supplementary budget, totaling ₦6.2tn, aims to fund critical infrastructure projects, education, healthcare access, and public welfare initiatives.

“The budget is divided into two main components: ₦3.2tn for renewed hope infrastructure projects and other critical infrastructure projects across the country, and ₦3tn to meet further recurrent expenditure requirements necessary for the proper operation of the Federal Government.”

He emphasized the importance of carefully examining every aspect of the budget proposal to ensure optimal utilization of funds and to safeguard the interests of constituents.

Agbese, who represents Ado/Ogbadigbo/Okokwu Federal Constituency of Benue State, assured that the legislative body would engage with stakeholders, conduct public hearings, and meticulously scrutinize the executive bill to ensure its alignment with the welfare of Nigerians.

“Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable for us. We are dedicated to getting it right and delivering a budget that benefits all Nigerians,” he stated confidently.

Highlighting the collaborative effort expected with the Senate, Agbese expressed optimism in working together efficiently to promptly pass the supplementary budget with the required scrutiny and oversight.
