Reps Criticize FIRS Boss for Ignoring Invitations

Following multiple invitations, the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee criticized Mr. Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), for failing to appear before them, deeming it as a sign of disrespect towards parliament.

During an investigative hearing in Abuja, PAC’s Chairman, Bamidele Salam, expressed disappointment over Adedeji’s absence.

Previously, the committee had hinted at the possibility of using its authority to issue arrest warrants against heads of government agencies who refuse to attend oversight functions.

At the recent event, Salam emphasized, “This marks the fourth consecutive invitation extended to the FIRS chairman, all of which have been disregarded.

“Not only have official letters been sent, but they have also been personally delivered to his mailbox and WhatsApp number.

“His persistent avoidance is deemed irresponsible and disrespectful, and we caution that there will be repercussions for his contempt towards parliament.”

Highlighting the numerous unanswered correspondences to Adedeji, Salam mentioned the uncollected value-added tax that belongs to the Federal Government.

“Upon reconciliation, the sum could reach hundreds of billions, which we are urging the FIRS to retrieve, yet they refuse to engage,” he added.
