Remo Stars’ title hopes fall short, coach Ogunmodede takes the blame

Daniel Ogunmodede, the head coach of Remo Stars, has shouldered the blame for the team’s inability to clinch the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) trophy.

Despite their best efforts, the Ikenne club had to settle for second place for the second season in a row, as Rangers emerged victorious.

In the previous season, they narrowly missed out on the title to Enyimba.

Looking ahead, Remo Stars are gearing up for their second shot at the CAF Champions League next season.

Reflecting on the season, Ogunmodede acknowledged that the primary objective was to secure the club’s first NPFL title but expressed regret over falling short.

He stated, “From a personal standpoint, I consider this season a setback because our aim from the start was crystal clear – to surpass our previous season’s performance.”

“Having finished second last season, our goal was to claim the top spot this time around. Unfortunately, we stumbled and had to settle for second place,” Ogunmodede conveyed through the club’s X account.

“The previous season (2022/23) had a different league format compared to the marathon format of this season (2023/24), providing us with varied learning experiences. We must come to terms with our fate.”

Assuming accountability as the coach, Ogunmodede made a point of commending the players.

He emphasized, “Our focus is on continual improvement; that’s our aim moving forward.”
