Remo Stars lead NPFL standings at the end of 2023

Despite suffering a 3-1 defeat against Heartland in Owerri on Thursday, Remo Stars concluded 2023 at the pinnacle of the Nigeria Premier Football League table.

Heartland took the lead through Promise Anyanwu in the 50th minute, but Sikiru Alimi equalized 19 minutes later. The hosts sealed the victory with two late goals from Onyekachi Okafor and Chinedu Ike.

With 29 points from 16 games, Remo Stars currently top the standings, while Lobi Stars moved to the second spot after securing a 1-0 win against Niger Tonardoes. Kumaga Suur scored the decisive goal 15 minutes from time.

Enyimba, the league title holders, clinched the only away victory of the day by defeating Bayelsa United 2-1 in Yenagoa. Ekenne Awazie opened the scoring for Enyimba in the 65th minute, but Israel Consul equalized seven minutes later. Chijioke Mbaoma then netted the winning goal for Enyimba from the spot nine minutes from time.
