Remarks by Akpabio to Nigerians: Join the Protest, but Let’s Eat

During an event organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Rivers state, Senate President Godswill Akpabio encouraged protesting Nigerians to move forward with their plans, stating, “but let us be there eating.”

Akpabio acknowledged that all Nigerians are currently experiencing the impacts of the country’s situation, assuring that it would be temporary. He expressed gratitude for the support of the Niger Delta amidst the ongoing hardships, high cost of living, and sufferings faced by citizens that have led to a nationwide protest set to start on Thursday.

He highlighted the need to address the damaging effects of oil and gas activities on the region’s people, mentioning that the national assembly is prepared to enact legislation to tackle oil spillage and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta. Akpabio emphasized the importance of including specific issues faced by the region in a communique that would be presented to the President.
