Rejecting a New Opportunity: Former Man Utd Boss, Solksjaer Declines Job Offer

Quashing any speculation, ex-Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has distanced himself from any association with the Ireland national team job.

Solskjaer had been touted as the bookies’ frontrunner to step in for Stephen Kenny.

Last November, the Football Association of Ireland announced they would not be extending Kenny’s contract following Ireland’s failure to secure a spot in Euro 2024.

Since then, several names have been circulating in connection to the vacancy.

Initially, it was rumored that Lee Carsley, the England U-21 head coach, was the top contender to replace Kenny. However, the FAI’s attempts to lure him away from the FA were fruitless.

Recent reports indicated that Solskjaer had emerged as a possible candidate after odds in some places significantly favored him on Friday.

Despite holding discussions with the FAI about the role back in January, The Athletic states that Solskjaer ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right move for him.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer’s former teammate at United, John O’Shea, took over as the interim manager for Ireland’s recent friendly matches against Belgium and Switzerland.
