Record of N25.8bn in Donations to Tackle Coronavirus in Nigeria

Confirming a notable progression, the contributions for combating Coronavirus in Nigeria have reached N25.8bn as disclosed in a statement by Isaac Okoroafor, the Director of Corporate Communications at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

 

In the statement revealed on Friday, Mr. Okoroafor acknowledged the coalition’s appreciation to all entities and individuals who have generously contributed to this fund. He encouraged others to also consider joining this national solidarity effort to not only provide medical equipment and materials but also urgently needed support to the underprivileged segments of society.

 

“We urge others to consider contributing to this national solidarity to provide not only medical equipment and materials but also to render urgently needed palliatives to the poor and vulnerable segments of our society.

 

“We hereby restate our commitment to full disclosure and accountability for all donations made.”

 

A comprehensive breakdown of the contributions indicated that the Central Bank of Nigeria and Aliko Dangote each contributed N2 billion, while Abdul Samad Rabiu (Bua Sugar Refinery); Segun Agbaje (GTB); Tony Elumelu (UBA); Oba Otudeko (First Bank); Jim Ovia (Zenith Bank); Herbert Wigwe (Access Bank) and Femi Otedola of Amperion Power Distribution, as well as Mike Adenuga (Globalcom), donated N1 billion each to the relief fund.

 

Other contributors encompassed Pacific Holding Ltd, Union Bank Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Standard Chartered Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Citi Bank Nigeria Ltd, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, ECOBank, African Steel Mills and Multichoice Nigeria Limited, FSDH Merchant Bank, FBN Merchant Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Coronation Merchant Bank, Sun Trust Bank, Providus Bank, Wema Bank, Unity Bank, Heritage Bank, Nova Merchant Bank, Polaris Bank, and Keystone Bank, Globus Bank, Titan Trust Bank, Takagro Chemicals Ltd, Ahmadu Mahmoud, and Handy Capital Ltd among numerous others.
