Record of 159 gender-based violence incidents within a year

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, has disclosed handling 159 cases of gender-based violence within the past year.

In a statement released to the press on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, highlighted the significant progress made by the Gender Unit of the NSCDC under Dr. Umar JG Mohammed’s leadership in combating Gender-Based Violence and safeguarding vulnerable individuals in the state.

The cases encompass 76 instances of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation, 58 incidents of neglect of responsibility, 11 instances of sexual abuse and rape, along with 12 cases of threats to life and 2 cases of missing children.

It was mentioned that numerous cases are currently undergoing legal proceedings, with an assurance that all perpetrators will face prosecution in accordance with the nation’s laws.

Umar reiterated the corps’ unwavering stand against gender-based violence and affirmed their continued collaboration with relevant parties to actively combat this societal issue.

He urged the public to assist the corps by providing actionable intelligence to aid in crime prevention within the state.
