Recent Arrests Made in Abuja for Vandalizing Transformer Cables

Allegedly, three scavengers were apprehended for vandalizing a transformer at Anguwar Sabon-Tasha in Abaji metropolis of Abuja.

According to a resident, Shuaibu Musa, who spoke to Daily Trust on Monday, the incident occurred at CAC Church along Agnana Road around 6:12pm on Friday, March 11.

As per Musa, the suspects utilized knives and pliers to cut the cables and clandestinely transferred them into an unfinished building in the area.

“A resident discovered the vandalization and promptly alerted the police,” said Musa.

The police found the cables at a scavengers’ shop and apprehended three of the suspects.

The three suspects are currently detained at the Abaji police command.

A police source, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed the arrests, stating that the Abaji branch manager of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had been informed.

Joshua Dangana Erena, the Abaji branch manager of AEDC, also verified the arrests and lamented the recurring incidents of cable vandalism in the area. Erena appealed to residents to collaborate with security agents and vigilantes to combat the crime.

Due to the frequency of transformer cable vandalism in the area, residents of Anguwar Kekeshi and Naharati have reportedly been without electricity for over two months.
