Oprah Winfrey has responded to reports indicating that her residence was raided and she was detained on sex trafficking charges.
On Tuesday night, the media icon’s name trended as the top topic on Twitter, with multiple reports alleging that her home in Boca Raton, Florida, was undergoing a raid and that she had been apprehended on charges related to sex trafficking and possession of child pornography.
Several Twitter users appeared enthusiastic about the news and ridiculed her for making documentaries about men accused of sexual assault while having her own secrets.
However, it emerged that the rumors were unfounded and had been initiated by QAnon, a far-right group centered on an anonymous individual referred to as “Q” that is notorious for originating outlandish conspiracy theories.
Oprah took to Twitter to dispel the rumors with the following statement:
Just got a phone call that my name is trending. And being trolled for some awful FAKE thing. It’s NOT TRUE. Haven’t been raided, or arrested. Just sanitizing and self distancing with the rest of the world. Stay safe everybody.
