Reacting to Jude Okoye and Cynthia Morgan saga, OAP Gbemi calls out people who owe N5k but demand record labels forgive millions in debts

Adding to the ongoing discussion between Jude Okoye and Cynthia Morgan, OAP Gbemi has shared her thoughts.

She took to Twitter to express her belief that individuals who cannot let go of N5k debt are hypocritically advising record labels owed millions to simply “forgive and forget”. Gbemi also urged those entering into contracts to seek legal advice.

She tweeted;

Whether you’re an artist, a label, an entrepreneur, or an investor, it’s important to have good legal representation. Review your contracts thoroughly and strive for fairness.

Some of you are quick to chase after a 5,000 Naira debt but expect a record label, owed millions by an artist, to easily pardon the debt. It’s amusing. Stop demanding of others what you wouldn’t do yourself.

There are numerous stories. I’ve often thought about writing a book, but I’m too occupied, and besides, many of you prefer downloading over purchasing books.

Many assume that creating a hit song is the only step to an artist’s success (as if it’s that simple) and the artist instantly becomes successful. There’s much more to it. @bizzleosikoya, would you be interested in a thread or IG live discussing this and the approximate costs of breaking an artist into the industry?

It’s vital to understand that this is a business. People are relying on this for their livelihood.

No matter how talented your artist is, money is a necessity. There are costs for recording sessions, mixing/mastering, image, promotion, public perception, and music videos. A significant amount is invested, often more internationally than locally.
