Family of ex-Zamfara CPG boss Rabiu Yandoto laments his ongoing detention and threatens legal action against the police

The former Commandant of Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CGP), Col. Rabiu Yandoto (rtd), continues to be held in custody by the state police command, causing distress to his family.

The family is troubled by the fact that their father remains detained without a formal presentation before a competent court.

They, represented by their lawyer Barrister Jamilu Shafa, assert that Col. Yandoto has been in police custody for approximately five weeks since his arrest on July 3, 2024, without any charges or reasons provided.

Barrister Shafa, accompanied by his client’s children at the Chief Magistrates Court in Gusau, disclosed that the police failed to arraign the retired Colonel in court as scheduled on Thursday.

He contends that the prolonged detention of his client by the police infringes upon his basic human rights, prompting him to take legal action against the authorities for the failure to promptly arraign Col. Yandoto and disclose the grounds for his detention.

Barrister Shafa emphasized the hardship faced by the family due to the absence of their primary provider following the arrest and detention of his client.

Contrary to claims of political motivation, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP Muhammad Dalijan, refuted such allegations, stating that Yandoto’s arrest is linked to the killing of Lawali Magaji, a political associate of Senator Kabiru Marafa.
