QATAR 2021: Morocco’s Historic Win Puts them in World Cup Semi-finals

QATAR 2021: Morocco becomes first African nation to reach World Cupsemifinals after defeating Portugal 1 - 0

Creating history, Morocco has become the first African nation to advance to the World Cup semi-finals by defeating Portugal 1-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday, December 10.

The only goal of the match was secured by Youssef En-Nesyri in the first half, out-jumping Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa to score.

Morocco has surpassed the achievement of three other African sides—Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010—by reaching the quarter-finals.

In an unexpected move, five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo was substituted early in the second half by coach Fernando Santos and could not rescue the Euro 2016 winners. This marked Ronaldo’s second game starting from the bench.
