Former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique has been officially appointed as the new manager of Paris Saint-Germain.

His arrival follows the recent sacking of Christophe Galtier, who served as the club’s manager for just one season.

Enrique’s last managerial role was with Spain at the end of the World Cup, and this marks his return to club management since departing from Barcelona in May 2017.

Expressing his enthusiasm on the club’s official website, he stated, ‘I’m thrilled to be joining Paris for a fresh experience.’

‘I’m looking forward to meeting new people, living in this city, learning a new language, and most importantly, managing PSG.’

Enrique had previously been considered for managerial positions at Chelsea and Tottenham after leaving Spain following their last-16 defeat to Morocco in Qatar.

His tenure at Barcelona was highly successful, securing the LaLiga title, a Champions League trophy, and the Copa del Rey three times.

Galtier’s departure comes after leading PSG to victory in Ligue 1 and the Trophee des Champions, despite only being in charge for a single season.
