Protests sparked by decades of poor governance

The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, expressed concerns about the long-standing history of mismanagement in Nigeria, attributing it as the root cause of ongoing protests.

Yahaya shared this sentiment during a meeting with a coalition of Gombe youths and students who were visiting the Gombe State Government House in solidarity against the planned nationwide strike.

Addressing the group, the governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in society, highlighting the negative consequences of allowing violence to escalate. He pointed out that unrest could lead to disruptions in various sectors including education and commerce.

Yahaya reiterated his commitment to supporting the youth and addressing the failures of past administrations. He mentioned initiatives like the student loan scheme introduced by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at providing assistance to students and their families.

Despite calls for an increase in student fees in Gombe State, Yahaya stood firm in prioritizing accessible and high-quality education for all students.

In urging protesters to seek proper approvals for their actions, the governor affirmed his stance against disruptive demonstrations, emphasizing the need for stability amidst economic challenges in the country.
