Protests Spark Shutdown of Banks, Petrol Stations, and Shops in Ibadan on August 1

Economic activities across various parts of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, came to a standstill on Thursday due to nationwide protests against hunger and essential commodity shortages in the country.

The protests kicked off in Ibadan on Thursday morning, organized by different groups and organizations at various locations within the city.

Protests were seen starting at the University of Ibadan, Iwo Road, Mokola roundabout, and Dugbe.

Commercial banks, petrol stations, shopping centers, markets, shops, schools, government buildings, and other public amenities in significant parts of Ibadan remained closed.

Reports came in that traders in the spare parts market at Araromi Gate advised their peers not to open their shops that day.

A similar scenario unfolded in markets like Bodija and other areas in the city.

The streets in Ibadan were deserted as a result of the ongoing protests.

Main roads such as Eleyele -Eruwa Road, Eleyele -Dugbe Road, Sango -Eleyeye Road, and Challenge- Ring Road were devoid of traffic, with only a few individuals passing through.

A similar atmosphere prevailed in places like Bodija, Ojoo, Mokola, Total Garden, Agodi Gate, and Iwo Road.
