Protests Begin, Bringing FCT Streets to a Standstill

On Thursday, economic activities in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT ground to a halt as the #EndBadGovernance protest started.

Nigerians, particularly the youth, expressing dissatisfaction with the country’s economic situation, are engaged in protests nationwide across all 36 states and the FCT.

Organizers of the protest seek to bring attention to the economic conditions to both federal and state governments.

NewsNow correspondents noted deserted major roads and stranded passengers in the capital city on Thursday morning.

The usually busy Berger Bridge and other areas experienced minimal vehicular movement. Banks and financial institutions closed over concerns of potential violence by troublemakers looking to exploit the protests.

The popular Utako market and numerous shops and plazas remained shut and secured.

The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) estimated potential daily losses of N400,000 if the protest is mismanaged.

The protest is scheduled to run nationwide for ten days as planned by the organizers.

There are apprehensions about the impact on national security due to the protest. However, security forces, including the Nigeria Police, were seen at various strategic locations in the capital on Thursday.
