Protesting Bauchi students barricade road over robbery attacks

Students of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi have taken to the streets to protest incessant robbery incidents along the host communities of the school.

PUNCH Metro gathered from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, in a press release issued on Tuesday, that the students residing in the Gwallameji community staged a protest and barricaded the federal highway along Bauchi-Dass Road.

He said an investigation by the police revealed the cause of the protest to be some hoodlums trespassing into their houses, robbing and injuring one Cletus Chomo, ‘M’, aged 50 years, of Sarauniya Lodge, Gwallameji.

“After receiving this information, a police team from the ‘E’ Division and tactical teams were swiftly mobilised to the area and successfully brought the situation under control,” the PPRO added.

Wakil also noted that one of the victims who was stabbed was promptly taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for medical attention and is currently responding to treatment.

He urged parents and guardians to take an active role in guiding their children and wards from engaging in activities that could lead to public disorder in the state.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, sternly warned individuals with criminal intent to disrupt public peace and safety to desist from such actions.

He maintained that “the commissioner has directed all relevant area commanders and DPOs to put in place security measures to identify, disarm, arrest, and prosecute any person or group involved in any attempt to disrupt law and order in the state.

“The command encourages the citizens of Bauchi State to continue supporting the police in the fight against crime and criminality.

“Law-abiding citizens are urged to go about their lawful activities without fear and to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.”
