Protesters in Lagos Damage MTN Office Over Mass Disconnection

In response to MTN blocking subscribers due to NIN-SIM registration mismatches, a large group of angry MTN subscribers vandalized the company’s office in FESTAC Town, Lagos State early Monday morning.

A viral video shared on social media captured the mob breaking down a barricade fence outside the MTN office.

Following the circulated video, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the FESTAC DPO and his team restored peace at the site.

“This is not the way to address the issue!

“Upon receiving the report, the FESTAC DPO and his team acted swiftly, bringing back order and remaining present to uphold peace.

PUNCH Metro previously reported that a large group of disgruntled subscribers had gathered at MTN offices nationwide to express their frustration with the company’s disconnection of their phone lines.

At the MTN offices, many subscribers formed long queues at the entrances as a response to the Nigeria Communications Commission’s directive to disconnect phone numbers not linked to NIN by July 31, 2024.
