Protesters Burn APC Secretariat in Jigawa, Resulting in Two Deaths and Numerous Injuries


Amid protests in Jigawa State, two individuals lost their lives and many others were wounded due to the authorities’ use of live ammunition and teargas to disperse the demonstrators.

These protests spanned across more than 10 LGAs within Jigawa, leading to reports of widespread destruction and looting of government assets.

Incidents in Dutse, the state’s capital, involved one fatality near the Government House and another in Shiwarin town, where protestors tried to block the Maiduguri-Kano Road.

Further chaos ensued as protesters set fire to the All Progressives Congress (APC) headquarters and torched party vehicles in Dutse.

In Hadejia, a local resident informed NewsNow that four individuals required hospitalization due to injuries and respiratory issues caused by police teargas.

Additionally, agricultural supply shops in the vicinity were ransacked.

In Gumel, violent acts targeted the state Agricultural Supply Company’s store (JASCO), the residence of a House of Representatives member representing Gumel, Gagarawa, and Maigarati, as well as the home of the APC Zonal Vice Chairman. Protesters overpowered security forces in the area, leading to widespread vandalism and looting.

In Birninkudu, two people sustained injuries, and fertilizer and grain stores bore the brunt of the protesters’ rampage.

Similar scenes unfolded in Ringim, Jahun, and Kazaure, as demonstrators demanded an end to poor governance.
