Protesters Allegedly Target NASS Members’ Homes in Yobe and Jigawa

Amid the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protest nationwide, reports have emerged of protesters allegedly vandalizing properties owned by political leaders in northern Nigeria.

Viral videos circulating online have shown youths setting fire to a mansion reportedly owned by Nazifi Sani Gumel, a current House of Representatives member representing Gumel/Maigatari/Sule Tankarkar/Gagarawa Federal Constituency in Jigawa State.

The demonstrators have accused the lawmaker of neglecting their constituency since being elected 14 months ago in the last general elections.

In a separate incident, another group of disgruntled youths protesting against hunger and poor governance in Yobe State targeted the home of a sitting senator, alleging embezzlement of public funds meant for constituency development.

Earlier, during the initial day of the protests, unidentified individuals posing as protesters ransacked and stole new computers and laptops from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano.
