Lawyers from the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, made a strong statement on Thursday with a protest at the Economy and Financial Crimes Commission office in Ibadan, Oyo State. They were there to show their disagreement with the detention of one of their colleagues by the anti-graft agency.
Sharing the news was a media personality known as #YemieFash on X.com, who posted a statement and video of the protest. According to the statement, the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, is demonstrating against what they describe as EFCC brutality in Ibadan. They hinted that a lawyer was the latest victim. Notably, the same EFCC officers who allegedly mistreated people in Akure on June 8 are said to be from the Ibadan command.
“EFCC is fast becoming another SARS,” the statement expressed.
A video accompanying the post showed the lawyers dressed in their gowns expressing their discontent with the actions of the commission.
