Primary and secondary schools in Osun instructed to begin vacation on Wednesday

Osun State Government has issued a directive for primary and secondary schools in the region to commence their third term vacation starting from Wednesday.

Both public and private schools are affected by this decision by the government.

The government stated that the closure of schools is in response to the planned nationwide protest against hunger set to take place on August 1.

A Public Service Announcement, signed by Mr. A. Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education and obtained in Osogbo on Monday, also advised parents and guardians to prioritize the safety of their children during the vacation.

The PSA announcement read in part, “This is to inform the general public, especially parents, guardians, and school authorities in the state that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are instructed to begin the third term vacation from Wednesday, July 31, 2023.

“Parents and guardians should ensure the safety of their children during this period.”

Earlier on Monday, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the state engaged in discussions with leaders of Civil Society Organizations and student groups in the region regarding the proposed hunger strike.

The outcome of the meeting is still awaited at the time of this report being filed.
