President Tinubu’s Decision to Reduce Delegates at UNGA

Instructions have been given by President Tinubu to limit attendance at the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, to only those with official business.

During a one-day retreat organized by the State House management for leaders of government agencies under its oversight, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, made this announcement.

He mentioned, “I have just had a discussion with the President. In the upcoming weeks, we will witness a trial of this directive at the UNGA in New York.”

“During recent protests, concerns were raised about the need to reduce the cost of governance. There is anticipation to see if Nigeria will maintain the tradition of sending the ‘largest delegation’ to the UNGA.”

“Based on past experiences, it has been observed that some individuals exploit such international gatherings for their personal agendas.”

“I have been directed by the President to ensure strict compliance this time. If you do not have legitimate business at the UN General Assembly, you are not to travel to America. This directive is from the President himself.”
