President Tinubu pledges to honor slain military personnel

In a commitment to immortalize the military personnel who lost their lives in Okuoma Community, Delta State, President Bola Tinubu has promised to ensure they receive a dignified burial with national honors.

He expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes will always be remembered.

The tragic incident in Delta State, where 17 military personnel were killed while on a peacekeeping mission, has sparked widespread condemnation from various sectors.

“They tragically lost their lives while responding to distress calls. Let us acknowledge and honor the significant sacrifices they made for Nigeria,” President Tinubu remarked, saluting the dedication of all armed forces personnel.

He added, “I will soon provide further details, but it is imperative that they receive a fitting burial and national recognition.”

Additionally, the President made an appeal to the National Assembly, urging members to exercise caution when summoning heads of government departments before parliamentary committees.

During a Ramadan fast-breaking event in Abuja, President Tinubu, alongside Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and House leadership, stressed the importance of oversight in governance for transparency and accountability.

While acknowledging the critical role of oversight, he cautioned against excessive summoning of officials, which could disrupt operations and impact service delivery to citizens.

“I have observed numerous committees summoning ministers and agency heads. I have spoken to the Speaker about giving these individuals some breathing space. Let them carry out their duties without unnecessary disruptions,” President Tinubu stated.

He called for a balanced approach, highlighting the primary responsibilities of each agency and the need for effective cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.

President Tinubu commended the National Assembly for promoting good governance through collaborative efforts that have led to the swift passage of beneficial legislation for the welfare of Nigerians.

As the country navigates challenges, he encouraged lawmakers to prioritize the needs of their constituents, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, by extending compassion and support to the less privileged.

Reflecting on the administration’s accomplishments, President Tinubu expressed optimism about the future, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action towards national development.

Speaker Abbas echoed the sentiments of forgiveness, generosity, and unity, calling for renewed efforts to strengthen the bond of togetherness and support for President Tinubu.

Amid considerations of the past ten months, the Speaker lauded the collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative arms in advancing the nation’s interests.
