President Muhammadu Buhari appoints new Chairman for FIRS as Tunde Fowler exits

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Muhammad Nami as the new Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS. Nami, a former tax consultant, is set to take over the leadership of FIRS following the exit of the outgoing boss, Tunde Fowler, whose tenure ended on December 9, 2019, as a result of non-renewal of his appointment by the presidency.

The announcement of Nami’s appointment did not come as a surprise to many well-wishers, who appreciated the outgoing boss for his contributions during his tenure. A statement from the Presidency highlighted Nami’s professional qualifications and extensive experience in taxation, accounting, and management services across various sectors.

Muhammad Nami holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Bayero University Kano and a Masters of Business degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is also affiliated with several professional bodies and has served on multiple company boards and statutory board audit committees. His career encompasses a wide range of experience in tax management, advisory services, and business consulting.

In the interim, the most senior director on the FIRS board will assume leadership responsibilities until the confirmation of the new board by the senate.
