President Buhari Assures Gradual Withdrawal of Troops from Troubled Communities

President Buhari has addressed the planned withdrawal of the military from communities where peace has been restored, emphasizing that it will be done gradually to avoid exposing the communities to the risk of further attacks.

In a statement released by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, Buhari assured that his administration is committed to protecting citizens and will not abandon those in need of security.

He also stated that the withdrawal will only take place once it has been confirmed that peace will not be jeopardized, ensuring a careful and gradual process.

President Buhari emphasized,

“You don’t need to worry. We will not expose our people and their communities to harm or danger.”

The withdrawal is to allow the military to focus on its primary duty of defending the nation against external aggression. It is the duty of the police to handle internal security since Nigeria is not at war.

“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will support the police to provide internal security. When it is time to withdraw, nothing will be rushed.”
