Prayer for Rainfall in Niger Led by Etsu Nupe

Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, took the lead on Thursday in gathering Muslim worshippers to seek divine intervention for the ongoing lack of rainfall in the state.

Joining Abubakar at the Eid praying ground in Esso, Bida Emirate, were other traditional and religious leaders as well as local farmers.

Following weeks of drought causing concerns among farmers about their drying crops and potential poor harvest in 2024, a collective prayer for rainfall was initiated.

Reflecting on the prayer session, Etsu Nupe emphasized the importance of seeking forgiveness and mercy from Allah during times of hardship, as guided by Islamic teachings.

He urged the Muslim community to prioritize forgiveness, abstain from prohibited actions, avoid immoral behaviors, and genuinely repent before God.

Quoting Islamic principles, he stated, “In the face of potential drought, Muslims are instructed to turn to Allah, seeking His forgiveness and guidance through prayer.”

Expressing hope for a favorable response to their supplications, he appealed for rain to nourish crops and sustain livelihoods.

During a sermon at the praying ground, the Chief Imam of Bida Emirate, Sheikh Adamu Liman-Yakatun, highlighted various factors contributing to drought, such as unfulfilled promises, dishonest dealings, and societal conflicts.

He prayed for abundant rainfall to support farmers in achieving prosperous harvests and for God’s intervention to alleviate the challenges faced by Nigerians nationwide.
