Positive Feedback from Ajax Manager on Akpom’s Work Ethic

Nigerian player Chuba Akpom is receiving praise from Ajax Amsterdam manager Francesco Farioli for his impressive work ethic, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

Despite not scoring in the last four league games of the season, Farioli remains confident in the abilities of the Hale End Academy graduate.

Akpom, who was the center of transfer rumors back to England, expressed uncertainty about his future at the Johan Cruyff Arena before the start of the 2023/24 season. Nonetheless, the Italian coach successfully retained him for another season.

In a press conference ahead of their Europa League third qualifying round second leg match against Panathinaikos, Farioli commended Akpom’s work ethic.

Farioli lauded Akpom, emphasizing his dedication to the team’s success: “The mentality, the spirit, the attention to detail – it all comes together. We need players like Berghuis, who not only score but also contribute defensively.” He went on to praise Akpom’s selfless contributions on the field.

Akpom had a remarkable previous season with Middlesborough, scoring 28 league goals in 38 matches and almost securing promotion to the Premier League. Despite a challenging start at Ajax, Akpom showcased his talent by scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 35 appearances.

With four years remaining on his contract with Ajax, Akpom will aim to justify his manager’s belief in him as the season unfolds.

If the right offers come in, Ajax may consider letting him go, as the player has attracted interest from various clubs.
