The Board of Trustees of the Iresi Community Polytechnic, Iresi, Osun State, has unveiled strategies to end students’ involvement in internet fraud popularly called yahoo yahoo.

Decrying the involvement of many youths across the country in internet fraud, the Board of Trustees of the polytechnic after its meeting, said it would launch an initiative called ‘Operation no Yahoo’ to curb the trend among the students of the institution.

The Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Alade Adesesan, in a statement, explained that the chairman BoT of the institution, Chief Oludaisi Aina, while speaking after the board meeting, said through the initiative, students would be discouraged from engaging in the illegal act.

Aina, who was flanked by other members of the BoT and Governing Council of the institution, as well as, representatives of Oluresi-in-Council, said the polytechnic would encourage more students to focus on the rightful use of knowledge of the Information and Communication Technology.

According to him, efforts to discourage student involvement in internet fraud will not be limited to the institution only, noting that youth resident in the host community of the school would also benefit from the campaign.

He further said, “Yahoo Yahoo will be tackled through innovation. Hub will be created by the school to help the students to develop their talent. It is for the community and the student populace. Operation no Yahoo will be backed with action, not just a mere declaration.

“This project code-named “Operation No Yahoo” to be established in the school by one of the communities in the Fintech industry is to train, develop and support the youth of the polytechnic and the community in a productive venture that will better their lives and the society.

“The school will also ensure close monitoring of the students. Enlightenment programmes and cooperation with the law enforcement authorities are some of the strategies that were adopted which has made the polytechnic one of the institutions that are crime free.”
