Police report successful rescue of man abducted from Ogun church

Details from the Ogun State Police Command indicate that Oladapo Seyifunmi, one of the individuals abducted during an incident at the Celestial Church of Christ, Oriyarin Parish in Mowe, Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area, has been successfully rescued.

A statement from SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the state’s police command, shared the news on her official Facebook account.

In her announcement, Odutola stated, “We are pleased to report to the general public that Oladapo Oluwaseyifunmi, a shepherd at the Celestial Church who was kidnapped, has been safely rescued following the extensive search efforts carried out by the police, local hunters, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and Amotekun. He has since been reunited with his family.”

Seyifunmi and another individual, Oluboboye Abiola, were taken captive from the church premises by armed assailants on Thursday.

Odutola had previously confirmed the abduction of the two individuals in a statement released through the police department’s official channels.

According to her, “Information available indicates that on 28/3/2024, unidentified gunmen forcibly entered a Celestial Church situated near Oriyarin village, Mowe. They proceeded to abduct Oladapo Seyifunmi, as well as Oluboboye Abiola, before fleeing through the densely forested area behind the church.”
