Resolution reached between Police and PSC regarding new recruitments

After a prolonged disagreement, the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission have finally resolved their issues concerning the recruitment of 10,000 constables.

The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, announced on Tuesday that the police had accepted the list of recruits, addressing previous corruption allegations during the process’s rejection.

Adejobi confirmed the statement made on Monday by the PSC regarding the start of training for the recruits on August 10.

In June, the NPF rejected the list of 10,000 recruits released by the PSC under the previous chairman, Solomon Arase, claiming that some qualified candidates were replaced with unqualified ones and demanding a complete cancellation of the process.

The PSC refuted the allegations and dismissed the call for cancellation, leading to intervention from the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, and other stakeholders.

In a statement on Monday, the PSC announced that training for the recruits would commence on August 10, indicating a resolution between the police and the PSC regarding the 10,000 recruits.

Adejobi mentioned that an agreement was reached after extensive deliberations, emphasizing the commitment of both parties to maintain transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in the recruitment process.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the collaboration between the NPF and the PSC for the benefit of the nation.

The newly recruited constables will undergo training on modern policing ethics and principles as directed by the IG, focusing on equipping them with necessary skills to fulfill their duties and uphold the values of the Nigeria Police Force.

The training program, starting on August 10, 2024, will cover various aspects such as community policing strategies, ICT, artificial intelligence, human relations, and attitudinal changes, ensuring the recruits are well-prepared.

The Inspector General of Police expressed gratitude to stakeholders and the public for their support and patience throughout the recruitment process.
