Police Issues Warning Against Kidnap Pranks, Highlights Death Penalty for Kidnapping

Reports from the Katsina state Police Command reveal that individuals are disguising themselves as bandits and making threatening calls or sending messages to intimidate people into paying ransom. This has prompted the police to issue a warning against such deceitful acts.

In a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Gambo Isah, it was emphasized that kidnapping is punishable by death via hanging under Section 243 of the Katsina State Penal Code, as amended.

“The Katsina state Police Command has observed a new trend where certain members of the public are using deceptive tactics to instill fear in unsuspecting individuals, such as friends, neighbors, or acquaintances. These individuals falsely claim to be bandits or kidnappers and demand ransom under the threat of kidnapping. It is important for the public to be aware that individuals involved in such activities will face legal repercussions in accordance with the law. It should be noted that ‘Death by hanging’ is the prescribed punishment for Kidnapping under Section 243 of the Katsina state Penal Code, as amended. Parents are urged to supervise their children’s activities, as the law applies to all and transgressors will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the statement read.
