Police in Ogun apprehend individuals involved in ‘one chance’ robberies

Aliu Oyetola, aged 35, and Seyi Afolabi, aged 40, were apprehended by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command. They are reportedly part of a gang of four individuals carrying out ‘one chance’ robberies in Sango Ota and its surroundings.

The arrest took place during a routine patrol by police officers in Sango Ota around Itori, the headquarters of Ewekoro Local Government area of the state on March 28, 2024.

The police had been tracking this gang following a report from a victim who was robbed on March 23, 2024, losing over N320,000 to the criminals.

On Friday, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, shared this information in a press release.

According to Odutola, “The victim entered a Toyota Corolla taxi at Ijako market heading towards Itori, accompanied by four men who deceitfully acted as fellow passengers.

“During the journey, these men robbed the victim of her possessions, including a smartphone worth N85,000, money amounting to N123,000 from a POS machine sale, and an additional N105,000 in cash before forcing her out of the car and fleeing.”

Following the report, the DPO of Sango Ota Division instructed the surveillance team to search for the culprits.

Further details provided by Odutola indicated that on March 28, 2024, while monitoring Itori Road, a Toyota Corolla frequently used by the gang approached the police but suddenly halted, leading the occupants to disperse in different directions.

The police officers initiated a pursuit, resulting in the arrest of Oyetola and Afolabi.

A Toyota Corolla with registration number GGE 659 FR was seized.

The apprehended suspects confessed and collaborated with the authorities, providing valuable information to track down the other members of the gang who had fled.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, directed the transfer of the suspects to the Anti-robbery Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
