Police in Nigeria Prohibit the Use of Fireworks During the Yuletide Season

Police ban use of fireworks during yuletide season

The Nigerian Police Force has issued a ban on the use of fireworks during and after the yuletide season.

This information was revealed by AIG Lawan Jimeta, who is in charge of zone 5, encompassing Edo and Delta. The statement was released by DSP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, on Saturday, December 10, in Abuja.

Jimeta emphasized that these devices are explosive and have the potential to cause harm to lives and properties, as well as disrupt public peace, and create unnecessary panic among residents.

He stated;

“In view of the above, the zone appeals to the general public, parents, and guardians to refrain from detonating or lighting these devices.

“Parents should discourage their children and wards from purchasing or using these items.

“Retailers of these devices are also advised and warned to cease the sale, as any individual or group found flouting this order will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”

Jimeta further urged everyone to observe the festivities with moderation, while being vigilant about security in their environment at all times.
