Police in Lagos detain eight alleged robbers from wanted list

In a recent development, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals suspected of engaging in armed robbery, all of whom were on the police’s wanted list.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, revealed this information in an official statement released on Saturday.

According to Hundeyin, the suspects, who were associated with two separate criminal syndicates, were captured following an extensive and secretive investigation that spanned several weeks.

The police representative alleged that these individuals are known for targeting Lagos residents and forcefully seizing vehicles at gunpoint.

Hundeyin mentioned that while some suspects were apprehended within Lagos, detectives tracked down others to Iwo in Osun State and Ibadan in Oyo State.

He disclosed that the arrested suspects are aged between 22 and 32 years old.

Moreover, he stated that these individuals are also accused of murdering a police officer and stealing his firearm in the Iju Ishaga area of the state on December 9, 2023.

Hundeyin confirmed that the stolen rifle was successfully recovered during the initial arrests.

“Among the items confiscated from the suspects were a pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, 30 live cartridges, and various talismans,” he remarked.

Instances of armed robbery have been on the rise throughout the state.
