Police in Akwa Ibom State Request Details of Planned Protests

Organizers of the upcoming nationwide protest have been urged by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, to provide necessary information about routes and meeting points to the command in order to ensure adequate security.

In a statement released in Uyo on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Timfon John conveyed this message from the Commissioner of Police, in compliance with the directive from Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for security preparations ahead of the protest.

ASP John mentioned, “In anticipation of the scheduled nationwide protest from August 1 to 10, named ‘EndBadGovernance,’ the Akwa Ibom State Police Command is requesting all organizers to share details of their planned activities to facilitate security arrangements before the start date in accordance with the directive of IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”

The organizers are expected to provide the following details to the Public Relations Officer of the command: assembling point and routes, expected duration of the protest, contact information of leaders and organizers, and strategies to prevent infiltration by criminals.

Both organizers and prospective participants are encouraged to collaborate with the police to ensure a peaceful conduct of the protest, free from interference by malicious individuals.

All protesters are advised to uphold the integrity of public gatherings and lawful assemblies, and to refrain from actions that may incite disorder in the state.
