With less than 24 hours remaining until the nationwide protest begins, the Ondo State Police Command has issued a warning to the organizers of the planned demonstration, urging them to uphold law and order.
Speaking to journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, the State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipupo, emphasized the readiness of all security agencies in the state to maintain peace.
He stressed, “Our priority is to ensure peace prevails in Ondo State.
“As we are all aware of the upcoming nationwide ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest scheduled from August 1st to 10th, we assure that security measures are in place.
“Protesting is a fundamental right in a democracy, and no government should deny its citizens this right under section 40 of the 1999 amended Constitution.
“While citizens have the right to assemble and express their grievances, those not participating in the protest also have the right to freedom of movement. Both rights must be protected.
“We are committed to preventing the hijacking of the protest by troublemakers,” the police chief affirmed.
