Police dismiss report of bandit attack on Sokoto ranch

Contrary to reports, the Sokoto State Police Command has denied claims of bandits launching an attack on a ranch close to Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, stated that the command received information regarding an intrusion into the farm and the escape of 315 livestock on June 28 at about 2:30 am.

Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, deployed tactical teams to conduct fact-finding and on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

According to Abubakar;

“This was followed by the deployment of an investigation team to unravel the circumstances that led to the situation.

“Fortunately, on 29/06/2022 at about 1pm, the owner of the ranch, Alhaji Abdullahi S. Gobir Adiya, informed us that 135 of the rustled livestock had returned back to the farm, comprising of 65 bulls and 78 rams respectively.

“Investigation into the matter has already been intensified as there are suspicions of foul play and it is not cattle rustling as previously reported by some media outlets.”
