Plateau to establish community police over killings — Gov. Lalong

Governor Lalong has announced that the Plateau state government is planning to establish a community police in order to address security challenges in the state. He made this announcement at a meeting on Peace, Security and Community Dialogue in Jos. The Governor urged community leaders to assess the efforts of conventional security agencies and work towards aligning their activities with the proposed community police structure. He expressed regret that the meeting had to be held due to the prevailing security situation, instead of celebrating peaceful coexistence and prosperity as originally planned for the forthcoming Forgiveness Day. Governor Lalong also highlighted existing structures such as the Operation Rainbow, Early warning System, Vigilante Volunteers and Community-based Intelligence Volunteers that are in line with the Community Policing model. He emphasized the need to establish synergy between the work of conventional security agencies and the proposed Community Policing structure to enhance security in the state.
