Plans to Review Domestic Crude Supply Obligations Regulations for Dangote Refinery Announced by Nigeria

An announcement has been made by the Nigerian government regarding the review of its Domestic Crude Supply Obligation Regulations 2023 in response to the supply challenges faced by Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

On Thursday, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, led by Gbenga Komolafe, disclosed this intention in a notice.

Additionally, the NUPRC mentioned plans to review the National Data Repository Regulations.

The commission expressed the need to gather feedback from stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive review process.

Inviting inputs from lessees, licensees, permit holders, host communities, and other stakeholders of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum sector, the commission is complying with Section 216 (1) of the PIA 2021, which mandates stakeholder consultations prior to finalizing or amending regulations.

The notice addressed the matters open for stakeholder consultations, which include the National Data Repository Regulations and the Amendment to the Production Curtailment and Domestic Crude Oil Supply Obligations Regulations 2023.

Meanwhile, the President of the Dangote Group criticized the NUPRC on Thursday for allegedly failing to enforce Domestic Supply Obligations by International Oil Companies.
