Peoples Democratic Party Urges Tinubu to Initiate Economic Policy Review

In a recent development, the Peoples Democratic Party has called upon President Bola Tinubu to directly engage with Nigerians regarding the current economic challenges facing the nation.

The party has also requested the President to promptly reassess its policies that are negatively impacting the livelihoods of Nigerians.

In a press release issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday, the PDP highlighted the escalating unrest and widespread protests as a direct consequence of the government’s perceived “arrogance” and “insensitivity” towards the struggles faced by citizens.

Referring to a statement dated June 6, 2024, the PDP urged President Tinubu to pay attention to the grievances of Nigerians, cautioning that the public’s response to widespread hunger could be severe.

The party also accused the ruling APC party of exacerbating the crisis by allegedly employing thugs to incite violence, expressing deep concern over the dire economic situation.

The PDP stressed the need for policy adjustments, particularly highlighting issues like the sudden fuel price hikes and the arbitrary Naira floatation as primary drivers of the economic downturn.

According to the PDP, a government that prioritizes its people should have foreseen the detrimental effects of these hastily implemented policies without adequate measures to safeguard the well-being of the populace.

Furthermore, the party reiterated that these misguided policies of the APC government have led to severe economic consequences, including skyrocketing inflation rates, soaring unemployment figures, and the closure of numerous businesses.

Amidst this crisis, the PDP condemned the alleged mismanagement of funds by government officials, citing instances of extravagant spending and improper allocation of resources.

Additionally, the party highlighted the reported covert payment of a substantial fuel subsidy by the APC administration, contradicting previous statements about ending the subsidy.

The PDP called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the nation, enact crucial policy reforms, and launch investigations into allegations of fund misappropriation.
