Peace and Security Commitment in Africa Reaffirmed by the United States, says Blinken

The United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, emphasized America’s dedication to promoting enduring peace and security in Africa.

During his visit to Nigeria as part of his tour of African nations, Blinken made this assertion on Tuesday in Abuja following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

He stressed that American initiatives would rely significantly on the region’s consistent efforts to ensure the safety of civilian populations.

Stating the importance of supporting partners striving to find effective security measures, he mentioned collaboration with Nigeria and other Lake Chad region partners.

Blinken highlighted the need for cooperation with local communities to demonstrate the presence of security forces primarily committed to safeguarding and fulfilling their needs.

Expressing concerns about the security challenges in Africa, including terrorism and criminal activities, he underscored the US’s apprehensions about the impact of insecurity on the region’s people.

Blinken also condemned insecurity and the undemocratic methods adopted to replace democratically elected leaders, citing the situation in Niger Republic.

He emphasized the necessity for a strategic partnership between African countries and the US to address these critical regional issues.
