President Gusau Expresses Confidence in Super Falcons for Paris 2024

Expressing optimism for the Super Falcons, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, is anticipating a proud display by the team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Having been absent from the Olympics for 16 years, the nine-time African champions are set to make a strong return.

The team, under Randy Waldrum, overcame a tough challenge from reigning African champions, Banyana Banyana of South Africa, to secure a spot in the women’s football event.

In Group C of the Olympics, the Super Falcons will be facing off against world champions Spain, Brazil, and Japan.

Gusau acknowledged the competitive caliber of the teams in the group while remaining confident in the Super Falcons’ ability to overcome the challenges.

Describing the team’s resilience and determination during the qualifiers, Gusau shared, “We shall try to better our World Cup performance where we crashed out without losing a single game during regulation time. The girls have shown resilience and determination to qualify for the Olympics against all odds, and I trust them to carry that same spirit to the Games in Paris,” as told to Completesports.com.

He added, “The teams in our group are among the best in women’s football in the world, but I can tell you that we can only respect them but will not be afraid to play any of them. After a performance at the World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, I know none of the teams in our group will take us for granted.”

The Super Falcons are scheduled to kick off their campaign against Brazil on July 25.
