Reasons Why Nigerians Are Reluctant to Pay Taxes as Revealed by CITN
The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has attributed the lack of tax compliance among Nigerians to a trust deficit in the government.
During the official unveiling of 'The David Olorunleke House' in Abuja, the President of CITN, Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, highlighted that Nigerians do not witness the tangible benefits of their tax contributions towards infrastructure development, leading to reluctance in tax payment.
Agbeluyi emphasized the need for the government to regain the trust of Nigerians in order to enhance tax compliance.
He underscored, "The substantial amount of taxes paid by Nigerians often goes unnoticed, impacting citizens' willingness to fulfill their tax obligations, a challenge stemming from the prevailing trust gap in our system."
